Thousands rally in biggest protest in years against Tunisia’s Saied

More than 3,000 people, according to AFP, marched in Tunis on Saturday to protest President Kais Saied, worsening living conditions and restrictions on political freedoms. The demonstration, led by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) alongside opposition parties and civil society groups, brought together people from across the political spectrum on Habib Bourguiba Avenue. Protesters demanded the release of detained government critics and an end to restrictions on trade union rights. UGTT Secretary-General Salah Eddine Salmi criticised the concentration of power in the presidency as demonstrators voiced anger over the rising cost of basic goods and declining purchasing power.
