Ethiopia’s government forces retake airport from Tigray rebels in Mekelle

Ethiopian federal forces and pro-government fighters have recaptured the main airport in Mekelle, Tigray, as rebels appear to be retreating from the city, according to multiple anonymous sources. The Alula Aba Nega Airport, about 10 km from Mekelle's center, was seized by rebels at the start of the conflict on September 23. Local residents and a journalist reported that TPLF leaders and fighters were withdrawing, but Ethiopian forces have not yet entered the city, raising concerns about looting and lawlessness.
