South Africa: Wolves, Living Remnants of Apartheid

Near Pretoria, the All Hearts Wolf and Animal Foundation houses about 60 wolves and hybrids resulting from crossbreeding with dogs, all descendants of animals introduced to South Africa during apartheid. These animals, raised by humans, cannot be released into the wild, highlighting a lesser-known aspect of the military history of the segregationist regime. The sanctuary, founded by Lexi and Ronnie Austen, primarily operates on donations and faces significant material challenges.
