Douala Port: CCJA Declares Itself Incompetent in Dispute over FCFA 9.17 Billion in Dividends Claimed by Staff

The OHADA Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA) ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the Port of Douala’s appeal against an arbitration award ordering it to pay FCFA 9.17 billion to the Autonomous Union of Port Workers of Cameroon. In judgment No. 125/2026, dated June 4, 2026, the court said the dispute over the dividends falls under Cameroonian labour law. The dividends stem from a 6% stake in Douala International Terminal, comprising 24,000 shares acquired by the port authority for FCFA 240 million for its staff. The port disputes its employees’ right to the dividends it received between 2005 and 2018.
