Ituri: More than 10 homes burned in one week in Ddesa as civil society calls for investigations

More than 10 homes were burned in one week in Ddesa, in Buko groupement, Bahema Nord chiefdom, Djugu territory, Ituri. Seven homes had been destroyed a week earlier, followed by four more burned during the night of November 1–2, 2026. Charité Banza Bavi, coordinator of the local civil society group, said the nighttime attacks do not match the usual methods of the CODECO militia and may be the work of organized bandits seeking to drive residents away and loot the village. Civil society is calling for stronger night patrols, increased community vigilance, and a joint investigation to identify those responsible and any possible sponsors.
