Brazil election: Voters choose between Lula and Bolsonaro's son

Bolsonaro, who led the first round on 4 October, has promised a crackdown on organised crime and cuts to taxes and public spending; he has also pledged to free his father, Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup. Lula rallied supporters, including at a large gathering on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach, after 33 million people did not vote in the first round. Supporters of both candidates held rallies in Rio as polling stations opened across the country.
