Cameroon Constitutional Council: the interim of an anthropologist

Paul Nchoji Nkwi, an 86-year-old anthropologist specializing in the traditions of the Northwest, is serving as interim president of the Cameroonian Constitutional Council following the death of former president Clément Atangana. Atangana, who had led the institution since 2018, died on October 4, 2026, at the American Hospital in Paris at age 85. The vacancy was officially recognized during a meeting at the Palais des Congrès on October 7, and Nkwi now oversees the institution responsible for validating presidential election results.
