The Zimbabwean government has for the first time openly acknowledged that elections have been marred by rigging and violence, eroding public trust and presidential legitimacy. Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi made the admission while presenting the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which seeks to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term and postpone elections from 2028 to 2030.
