Zimbabwe Ranked Among Worst Labour Rights Violators, Placed On 'Watch List'

The ITUC released its 2026 Global Rights Index, placing Zimbabwe on a 'watch list' of the worst labour rights violators. Zimbabwe is in the second tier alongside six other countries, including the United States. The report cites arbitrary arrests of trade unionists, abuse of digital surveillance laws, and a rollback of workers' rights under Zanu PF. Zimbabwe has been rated in the fifth tier (no guarantee of rights) since 2014, and faces further risk due to attempts to delay the 2028 elections.
