Niger inaugurated a new power plant financed and built by Algeria in 70 days to address daily electricity cuts in Niamey, which have been recurrent since the July 2023 coup. The plant, inaugurated by Niger's Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine and Algeria's Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, aims to meet the 200 MW demand in the capital region. It was constructed via an air freight operation, highlighting the urgency of the energy crisis.
