Benin: “Panier minute” challenge stops in Porto-Novo

After Cotonou’s Ganhi market, Porto-Novo’s Ouando market hosted the “Panier minute” challenge as part of Local Consumption Month. Participants had 10,000 CFA francs and 60 seconds to fill a basket with local products, including rice, cassava flour, smoked fish and fruit. Women at the event welcomed the initiative but called for local-product promotion to continue beyond October and for more affordable prices on some Beninese goods, such as pasta.

He said credit cuts do not mean investment projects have been abandoned, citing hospitals, health facilities, sanitation projects, agropoles and fire stations set to continue or return in the 2027 budget.
