Ondo monarch collapses, dies after 24 hours

Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, the Onidogun of Idogun in Ondo State, died on Thursday evening after collapsing on Wednesday and spending 24 hours in a coma at a hospital. His death comes nearly a year after residents allegedly assaulted him, prompting him to leave the community; the state inquiry panel’s report has still not been made public. Information Commissioner Idowu Ajanaku confirmed the death and urged residents to remain peaceful. Local reports said opponents of the late monarch blocked the road into Idogun with logs on Thursday, forcing those transporting his body to return it to a mortuary in Owo.
