2026 CAF Awards: No Super Falcons among Women's Player of the Year finalists

No Nigerian player made the shortlist for the 2026 CAF Women's Player of the Year award, unveiled Tuesday. The omission follows Nigeria's quarter-final exit from the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations against eventual champions Cameroon. Cameroon has three nominees—Marie Ngah Manga, Michaely Bihina and Monique Ngock—while the shortlist also includes players from Algeria, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, South Africa and Zambia. Nigeria has won the award multiple times through former Super Falcons stars Perpetua Nkwocha and Asisat Oshoala, but has no nominee this year.

Spanish football authorities will separately review the red card and the circumstances of the collision, as the death does not automatically determine a suspension or mean a lifetime ban.
