2026 local government elections: Voters urged to scrutinise service delivery records

Ahead of South Africa’s November 4 local government elections, experts and municipal leaders urged voters to assess representatives by their performance rather than their promises. At a University of KwaZulu-Natal discussion, participants called on incoming councils to strengthen accountability, financial management and infrastructure maintenance to improve service delivery. Academic and political analyst Zakhele Ndlovu said voting patterns shaped by racial and ethnic identity and the legacy of apartheid allow leaders to avoid consequences for corruption.

Senate to Get World Bank-Funded System to Monitor County Assembly Resolutions
