2026 Supplementary Finance Bill Rejected in Committee: Pastef Sets Conditions and Pressures President Diomaye Faye

The Pastef-Les Patriotes parliamentary group will not approve the 2026 supplementary finance bill in its current form, while acknowledging that new economic constraints make a budget revision necessary. In a statement on October 23, it cited disagreements over budget allocations and financing, insufficient guarantees, and a lack of attention to lawmakers’ requests. Pastef called for a review of cuts affecting areas including health, education, water, and infrastructure, and said adjustments should focus instead on non-essential spending. It also demanded that any reduction in energy subsidies be accompanied by lower taxes on petroleum products and lower electricity costs.
