2027: Obi to stop erosion of Nigeria’s commonwealth, NDC tells Tinubu

Ahead of the January 16, 2027 election, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says its candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso aim to stop the erosion of the country’s commonwealth. The party’s response follows President Bola Tinubu’s mockery of Obi over his handling of erosion in Anambra State during his time as governor. The NDC asks what became of the promised fiscal gains from fuel subsidy removal as borrowing and revenue rise while health and education remain underfunded. It says the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket will oppose mounting debt without corresponding benefits as Nigerians face worsening poverty, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
