2027: ‘The North has turned against Tinubu,’ says Umar Ardo

Dr Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, says people in northern Nigeria have turned against President Bola Tinubu’s policies. Speaking Tuesday on Arise Television’s Morning Show, he linked their anger to insecurity, poverty and the high cost of living, which he said had been worsened by the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira. Ardo said Tinubu could receive less than 10% of northern votes in a free and fair 2027 election, despite winning 63.6% of the region’s votes in 2023. He also cited farmers’ inability to reach their fields because of banditry and kidnappings, and northerners’ sense of exclusion from federal appointments.
