300 former combatants and displaced people benefit from socio-economic reintegration projects in Ituri
In Ituri, 300 former combatants and displaced people are taking part in reintegration projects across the territories of Irumu, Djugu and Mahagi. Funded by MONUSCO and implemented by the NGO Femme en action pour le développement multisectoriel (FADEM), the initiatives combine vocational training and paid work with the construction of infrastructure, including roads, markets and Kabarole primary school. Training includes agriculture, baking, mechanics, sewing and small-scale business. FADEM coordinator Georgine Kitabo says the activities and collaboration with local communities can reduce the risk of participants returning to armed groups and promote social cohesion.
