KeNHA Seeks Firm to Verify Rironi-Mau Summit Project Costs

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) have invited bids for an independent review of construction work and costs on the Rironi-Mau Summit highway project. The review will cover the 81-kilometre Rironi-Gilgil section and the 58-kilometre Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road, verifying early works and whether costs match work completed. The Ksh200 billion expansion is being delivered through a public-private partnership; as of September 30, 2026, early works were 34.96% complete on the Rironi-Naivasha section and 10.38% complete between Gilgil and Mau Summit.

The initial budget had projected tax revenue of 1,338.9 billion CFA francs, but the revised target was not disclosed. The government also presented a balanced 2027 budget proposal of 2,684.1 billion CFA francs, including 490 billion in investments tied to its 2026-2031 roadmap; both proposals must be examined by Parliament.

It said political campaigns, conferences and other major gatherings could continue unless the public health situation changed. Newspapers also reported that the National Economic Council endorsed a 90-day economic action plan, while the Nigeria Labour Congress threatened nationwide action after talks on workers’ welfare and petrol prices failed. Olusegun Obasanjo criticized Bola Tinubu’s naira devaluation, and Atiku Abubakar demanded the immediate publication of the preliminary voters’ register ahead of the 2027 election.
