Military clarifies encounter between troops and police in Plateau

The Special Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF-OPEP) says an encounter between its troops and police in Bassa, Plateau State, was wrongly described as a clash. Its spokesperson, Capt. Polycarp Oteh, said troops responded on Oct. 20 to a distress call reporting gunfire in Mai Farin Moto, Maraban Dere and nearby communities, as well as the suspected killing of Adamu Suleiman. The troops said they sought to assess the situation and coordinate with police, but reported a lack of cooperation from some officers. The incident is being addressed through command and inter-agency channels to establish the facts and prevent a recurrence.
