Tundu Lissu’s Brother, Advocate Alute Mughwai, Dies Suddenly in Arusha

Lawyer Alute Mughwai Lissu, brother of Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu, died in Arusha during the night of October 31 or early on November 1, 2026. His sister, Rose Masesa, announced his death but did not give a cause; the family plans to bury him after the November 6 court ruling in Tundu Lissu’s case. The CHADEMA leader has been imprisoned since his April 2025 arrest and faces treason charges. In a recent interview, Alute Mughwai said he had refused a government official’s request to persuade his brother to seek amnesty and wanted answers about the 2017 attack on Tundu Lissu.

He noted that Kwankwaso was Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives before Obi entered national politics, and later served two terms as Kano State governor and as a federal minister. Ahmad contrasted that record with Obi’s former leadership of Anambra State.

Alake Admits Tinubu Has Yet to Fulfil Electricity Promise, Says Work Is in Progress

Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, acknowledged that Bola Tinubu has not yet resolved Nigeria’s electricity challenges, three years into his presidency. He defended the administration’s measures, including the 2023 Electricity Act, which allows states to participate in the power sector, and a 4 trillion naira bond programme to settle verified debts. Alake said the programme’s first two phases raised more than 1.2 trillion naira, while the Presidential Metering Initiative provided meters to over 1.5 million customers. He also defended moving tariffs towards cost-reflective levels and said protections were in place for low-income households.
