Ethiopia announces installation of interim government in Tigray

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on Friday a six-month interim administration for Tigray after federal forces retook control of the region. Five officials, including Mekelle’s mayor, have been appointed to run the state under directives from the federal government. Addis Ababa says the administration is intended to create political stability ahead of free elections. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front, which launched an offensive in September alongside other armed groups, has yet to respond.
