Marseille bans daytime gatherings after unrest

Police banned all gatherings and demonstrations in Marseille on Monday from noon to 8 p.m., following violence and looting during weekend protests over the cost of living. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is expected to visit France’s second-largest city later in the day. The city’s mayor had criticised security arrangements for Saturday’s demonstrations.
