INEC pledges more inclusive voting for persons with disabilities

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pledged to improve access to the 2027 elections for persons with disabilities through assistive materials, accessible polling units and electoral staff training. At a sensitisation workshop in Gombe, Resident Electoral Commissioner Umar Gajiram, represented by Fadimatu Bakari, said disability must not prevent eligible citizens from voting and that inclusion should be part of all electoral activities. He urged disability desk officers to gather voters’ concerns and relay them to the commission. Gombe JONAPwD chairman Gambo Ahmad praised the workshop, particularly the provision of Braille materials and an interpreter.
