Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions charged a bus driver with 12 offences after a crash on August 7 in Boya, along the Ahero–Awasi Highway, killed Technical University of Mombasa students Evance Odiwour Otieno and Rooney Owek Gakumba. The charges include two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and 10 counts of driving without due care and attention over injuries to passengers; the driver denied all charges at Nyando Law Courts. The students were travelling to Kisumu for the funeral of former TUM student leader Elvis “Beast” Otieno. The driver was granted a Ksh500,000 bond, and the case is scheduled to return to court on November 5.
