Kwankwasiyya questions proposed N55bn loan for Kano LGAs

The Kwankwasiyya Movement is asking the Kano State Government to explain a reported N55 billion loan that the state’s 44 local government councils may be required to take on. Figures cited by spokesperson Habibu Sale Mohammed indicate that each council could contribute about N632.57 million for a Computer-Based Testing centre, N500 million for an unspecified project and N117.41 million for an empowerment programme. The movement wants details on the projects, beneficiaries and repayment, as well as safeguards for the use of the funds; it said it was not alleging that the loan was intended to finance the next elections.
