Cotton in Benin: Government launches program to boost production in 2026–2027

Benin’s government is launching a cotton intensification program for the 2026–2027 season, with a pilot project assigned to ATDA 2, 3 and 4. The official launch of the seed-cotton marketing campaign took place on October 23, 2026, in Savalou, in the presence of Agriculture Minister Adin Yéton Bloukounon Goubalan. After a 2025–2026 harvest of 533,590 tonnes, down 16.3% year on year, the project aims to improve yields per hectare and manage inputs more rigorously. A budget of 3.883 billion CFA francs will support the season, and authorities urged cooperatives to deliver cotton to ginneries and use the official marketing mechanism.

Established in 2000 and extended through 2028, AGOA provides duty-free access to the U.S. market for thousands of eligible products.
