Army rewards soldier N500,000 for rejecting kidnap suspect’s bribe

Major General Maxwell Dangana, commander of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace, rewarded Private Utim Terwase with N500,000. Terwase apprehended a suspected kidnapper after an attempted escape, refused money allegedly offered for the suspect’s release and handed him over to the appropriate authorities. Operation Enduring Peace spokesman Captain Polycarp Chinonso Oteh said the award was presented on Dangana’s behalf by Colonel Philimon Malgwi. Dangana praised Terwase’s integrity and professionalism, saying the reward matched the amount of the bribe he reportedly rejected.
