Longer wait for milk on shelves as shortage persists amid drought

Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe warned that consumers in Nairobi and other urban centers may face a deeper milk shortage if the ongoing drought continues. Formal milk deliveries to processors declined by 3.7% from June to July 2026, and the situation could worsen if dry conditions persist. Kenya, producing about 5.5 billion liters of milk annually, may consider milk imports if local production continues to be affected.
