Ugolor urges Umahi to publish details of N30bn East-West Road approval

Activist and publisher David Ugolor urged Works Minister Dave Umahi to publish details of the Federal Executive Council’s N30 billion approval on October 28, 2026, for repairs to deteriorated sections of the East-West Road. He wants the ministry to identify the road sections and planned work, contractors, funding arrangements, procurement approvals and completion timelines, with a breakdown of funds approved, released and paid. Ugolor also asked whether the damaged Kira section in Rivers State is covered and how the repairs relate to existing contracts and the planned reconstruction of about 400 kilometres between Edo and Cross River states. He called for publication of drainage, flood-risk and geotechnical assessments, alongside information on safety, community consultation and compensation.

They call for an end to special arrangements between the Mines administration and mining companies and propose a multi-stakeholder workshop.
