Four years ago, 11 people died because of him, investigators have finally arrested Papa Demba Wade

Last Thursday, Papa Demba Wade was arrested and brought before the Saint-Louis prosecutor for conspiracy, maritime human trafficking, endangerment of life, and involuntary manslaughter. His arrest follows a shipwreck that occurred in June 2022, where a pirogue carrying about 200 people capsized, resulting in the deaths of eleven individuals. Despite an arrest warrant issued against him, he remained elusive until his identification and arrest on August 28, 2026, at his family home.
