Kinshasa electricity crisis: SNEL must shed light on its private partnerships (CNPAV statement)

As Kinshasa faces increasingly long power outages, available electricity in the capital has fallen from about 700 MW in July 2026 to 390–450 MW. CNPAV and the Mwangaza Network are urging SNEL and government authorities to disclose details of the Karpowership partnership, the Kibombo Bis hydropower project and private electricity imports. They call for publication of contracts, tariffs, licences and the partners’ beneficial owners, alongside independent checks of financial commitments and selection processes. Karpowership has announced capacity of 134–135 MW, while SNEL is expected to commit $110 million to Kibombo Bis.
