After violence on the sidelines of demonstrations on 17 and 18 October 2026, French authorities imposed curfews in several affected areas, including Paris. In the capital, the measures covered Place de la République and the Les Halles district, where violence and looting occurred on Saturday. Traffic was banned there from 11 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, while gatherings and demonstrations were prohibited from 8 p.m. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said the measures would be reviewed daily and prefects could impose further curfews depending on how the situation develops.
