SERAP sues INEC over allegedly unaccounted-for ₦126 billion in electoral funds

SERAP has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to account for more than ₦126.46 billion appropriated for electoral operations. The organisation says alleged irregularities are set out in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2023 audit report, published on August 7, 2026, which covers transactions including those from 2022. SERAP is seeking details of spending, payments, beneficiaries and contractors; the report cited more than ₦112 billion allegedly paid without competitive bidding. It says transparency is vital as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections and seeks to protect public confidence in the electoral process.

The girl’s mother reportedly became concerned after her daughter complained of pain while bathing; the child later accused the guard, and a medical examination found injuries to her intimate areas. Dieng denies the allegations, while school director Bassirou Ndiaye testified that the guard was well liked by pupils and that he had never heard of similar incidents; the defense also challenged the medical certificate’s evidentiary value. The court has reserved its decision until next month.
