Benin: ABMed Orders TOCFIM Quarantined

Benin’s Medicines and Other Health Products Agency (ABMed) has ordered the immediate quarantine of all batches of TOCFIM, an oral cefixime suspension at 100 mg/5 mL made by Acton Pharma Pvt. Ltd. The measure expands a targeted withdrawal issued on June 16 and allows further investigations into the medicine’s quality. ABMed has instructed pharmacies and health facilities to remove the bottles from shelves and isolate them pending expert findings. The medicine is prescribed for children over six months to treat certain bacterial infections, and authorities stress that it requires a prescription and that prescribed courses should be completed.

Claudlove Ramazani and student François Longo fear the outbreak could worsen, while Jean Divin Tawamba supports the march as a show of unity behind the FARDC. The governor's spokesperson, Maître Michel Biambe, says hand-sanitizing solutions and physical distancing will be provided, although some state services are requiring their employees to attend.
