South Africa: Energy-intensive data centers worry NGOs

South Africa, aiming to become the main digital hub on the continent, hosts nearly 70% of Africa's data center capacity, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa. However, NGOs are calling for a moratorium on the construction of new centers due to the excessive use of limited resources such as water and electricity. The South African Human Rights Commission has received over 250 contributions regarding this issue since the start of a consultation in May.
