Flydubai stabbing: How safe are planes if a pilot turns violent? | Aviation | Al Jazeera

A Flydubai co-pilot stabbed the captain on Wednesday morning in an apparent attempt to crash the plane carrying over 170 people from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During the incident, the aircraft lost half its altitude as passengers and crew stormed the cockpit to overpower the attacker, who was trying to damage the controls. Another pilot took control and safely landed the plane in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The UAE is investigating, and Saudi authorities are questioning the suspect co-pilot, who was injured and is in custody. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would follow the investigation and possibly participate.
