About 50 former ADF hostages freed in Malembi forest in Ituri

Nearly 50 people held for several weeks by ADF rebels were freed in Malembi forest, about 130 kilometres from Mambasa-centre in Ituri. Civil society sources, citing the Malembi group chief, said their release followed recent clashes between the FARDC and ADF fighters. The hostages had spent two to three months in captivity after being abducted in Nduye and Malembi or intercepted on the road; 29 were presented to the public at a ceremony in Mambasa-centre on November 2. Some went to army positions before being taken to Mambasa, while others returned to their villages or camps.

The Network of Whistleblowers is seeking explanations about his claims, including an alleged search at Sonko’s apartment in Cité Senegindia and sums of money reportedly seized. Diagne also criticizes the finance committee’s rejection of the revised finance bill and urges President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to dissolve the National Assembly.

The Western Cape Government is preparing legal action against Theewaterskloof Municipality, which voted on October 27 to retain Tracy Mbalo-Tshungwana as acting director of community services. In an October 29 letter to the municipal Speaker, Local Government MEC Anton Bredell said his department considered her CV, qualifications and appointment non-compliant with statutory minimum requirements. The department will ask a court to declare the appointment unlawful and may seek a costs order against councillors who supported her continued appointment. Bredell’s spokesperson, Wouter Kriel, declined further comment because legal proceedings are being considered.
