Benin’s National Assembly unanimously adopted a new road code on October 26, 2026, under the presidency of Joseph Fifamin Djogbénou. The code contains 122 articles in six titles and replaces legislation dating from 1956; it will take effect after Senate review and promulgation. It redefines the road, strengthens protection for vulnerable people, and emphasizes cycle lanes, education, and public awareness. Deputies proposed amendments concerning, among others, Articles 2, 79, 84, 109, and 116.
