Alleged election-delay plot is fake news, says Presidency

Nigeria’s Presidency says the federal government has no plans to postpone the January 16 elections and calls the allegation fake news. The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council claims INEC chairman Joash Amupitan could be summoned to the Presidential Villa and pressured to change the timetable, and urges that any such approach be made public. The council warns against using the Ebola outbreak as a political justification for delay, citing the NCDC director-general’s view that there is currently no reason to postpone the vote. The House of Representatives also plans to summon INEC for a briefing on its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
