2027: No reason to fear election postponement, says SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) says there is no credible reason to fear that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will postpone the 2027 general elections, scheduled for January 16. National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba said health authorities had dismissed concerns related to Ebola and that security challenges had not reached a level warranting a postponement. He also said INEC had addressed concerns about the electoral register by uploading its preliminary version online. The SDP will remain vigilant but is optimistic that the elections will be held fairly and credibly.
