UN: Macky Sall withdraws, former prime minister Amadou Ba responds

La Nouvelle Responsabilité Jamm-Ji (NR/J), the movement led by Amadou Ba, welcomed Macky Sall’s withdrawal from the race to become UN secretary-general. In a statement, it said the decision, which followed the Security Council’s indicative vote on October 16, reflected what it called “lucidity, responsibility and greatness.” The movement said the withdrawal could help pave the way for a consensus candidate and congratulated Sall for representing Senegal and Africa internationally. It urged President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to make promoting Senegalese talent in international institutions a diplomatic priority.
