Biodun Stephen urges colleagues to stop announcing their movies’ cinema earnings

Nigerian filmmaker Biodun Stephen urged her colleagues to stop publicising their movies’ cinema earnings. On the Paul & Baaj: In Character podcast, she said the figures put unnecessary pressure on other filmmakers and reduce success to a shallow measure that does not reflect a film’s quality or international potential. Stephen also questioned the pursuit of recognition abroad before building a strong profile in Nigeria. She said she values the emotional impact of her stories and the difference they make to audiences more than box-office numbers or awards.
