Boxing: Idi Amin Dada’s grandson loses medal after illegal act

Ugandan boxer Aziz Abdul, nicknamed “Ringo,” was disqualified in the final of the African Boxing Championships in Nairobi on October 23, 2026. After the final bell in his men’s 90 kg bout against Egypt’s Mohamed Hossen, Abdul punched him in the back of the head, forfeiting the silver medal; Hossen was not injured. Abdul had already been disqualified in the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July after an illegal headbutt against England’s Damar Thomas. He is the grandson of former Ugandan leader Idi Amin Dada, whom he never met.
