The Elikiya Ebola treatment centre in Bunia cared for 572 patients with confirmed Ebola after opening on an emergency basis in early June 2026. Médecins Sans Frontières plans to close the centre at the end of October and redeploy its teams, as other facilities in Bunia now have enough capacity to receive patients. Community activities will continue in Bigo and Ndibe through October 31 and in Nzere until mid-November; four other treatment centres will remain available in Bunia. Nationally, the outbreak declared in May has caused 4,602 deaths among 9,552 confirmed cases, according to figures provided.
