AFCON: CAF considers returning to a biennial schedule, every 2 years

CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed in Cape Verde that the confederation is considering bringing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) back to a biennial schedule, after initially proposing a four-year cycle. The final decision will be made by the CAF executive committee during their meeting, which could either approve or reject this change. The proposed reform, which would have extended the interval to four years, faced criticism over its potential impact on the African football calendar. If confirmed, the tournament would continue to be held every two years, but no official decision has yet been made.
