CFA Francs: Seven Coins Withdrawn Starting Monday, No New Banknotes (BEAC)

Starting November 2, 2026, CFA coins from the old series issued between 1958 and 1985—denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500 francs—will no longer be accepted in the six CEMAC countries. They can be exchanged free of charge at banks, microfinance institutions and BEAC branches through July 31, 2027, and only at the central bank from August 1 through October 31, 2027. BEAC plans to issue 500 million new coins annually, targeting three billion in circulation by 2030, and has denied rumors about new banknotes ranging from 25 to 400 CFA francs.
