Cooperation: Washington prioritizes projects that create opportunities for US companies in Cameroon

In Douala on October 22, 2026, Sophia Lalani, senior adviser to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Washington prioritizes projects in Cameroon that are ready to launch, involve a US company and provide it with direct commercial opportunities. According to the American Chamber of Commerce in Cameroon, she said governance reforms long supported by Washington had benefited companies from other countries more than US businesses. The approach extends the “Trade, not aid” doctrine unveiled in Abidjan in May 2025 by Troy Fitrell, then the State Department’s top official for African affairs. Washington aims to increase US exports and investment in Africa and work with African governments to remove regulatory barriers affecting public procurement and investment.
