Court allows ICPC to play CCTV footage in El-Rufai’s suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja allowed the ICPC and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to each play 20 minutes of CCTV footage in open court, rejecting El-Rufai’s request to show the full recording, which runs for more than six hours. Justice Chigozie Onah said the court could not become a viewing centre and noted that the full video contained sensitive information that could compromise the security of the ICPC facility. He also denied El-Rufai’s request to cross-examine two commission officials, noting that fundamental rights cases are decided on affidavit evidence. El-Rufai is seeking 10 billion naira in damages, alleging he was denied access to his wife and son while in custody; the substantive applications are scheduled for Nov. 3.
