Court Asked to Disqualify APC from Rivers Governorship Election

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and its governorship candidate, Kieghe Nature Dumale, have asked the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to rule that the APC cannot contest the Rivers election scheduled for February 6, 2027. They also want the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the party and its candidate from the list of eligible contenders. The plaintiffs cite a September 24 Supreme Court judgment concerning compliance with Sections 77(5)-(7) of the Electoral Act 2026, along with INEC’s statement that it excluded parties that failed to comply. Dumale alleges that INEC published the final candidate list without checking whether the APC had followed those provisions in its Rivers primaries.
